News from Alloa

Much is happening here in Alloa in terms of Christian Listening. Following on from the Acorn in Scotland launch day in September we have had many enquiries about Listening. The local free paper interviewed me and the result of that article sparked even more interest especially in our latest training days.

Moira Bruce one of Acorn in Scotland’s trained listeners has been responding to many of the enquiries and has sent out many of the promotional DVDs for the new Log In Listen In – an interactive training programme for students aged 11-18 years.

Moira and I are currently running a Learning to Listen course and have a very lively and diverse group of participants. For the first time of running the course most do not have a church background. They have fully engaged with the material and feel sure that it will be of great benefit to them.

Clackmannanshire Listeners continue to meet monthly for training and catching up. Our weekly drop in service goes on, and we continue to respond to calls to meet folks out with that time.

We are still trying to source a shop in Alloa for a drop in Listening Space, and the steering group is hard at work meeting different agencies who are helping to move this project forward. This “space” would incorporate a Christian Bookshop with rooms set apart for Listening.

Our very latest news is that we have just been offered a listening space every Thursday in the new hospital and health centre in Alloa where people will have the opportunity to come and talk to one of our listeners. All in all we are in good spirits, and look forward to seeing where God is leading us. We just keep on LISTENING.
